These terms govern your booking and stay at 78 on 5th Guest House, 78 Fifth Street, Voelklip, Hermanus 7200, South Africa. By confirming a booking you agree to these terms.
1. Booking & Confirmation
- A booking is confirmed only once we receive the required deposit (see below).
- Reservations are processed through our booking partner NightsBridge.
- Children aged 6 years and older are welcome in our two family suites: The Apartment and Mountain View Suite 6. The Apartment has two king beds. Mountain View Suite 6 has one king bed and two twin beds. Suite 1, Suite 2, and Suite 3 are not configured as family suites and remain suited to guests aged 12 years and older. Children under 6 are not accommodated.
- The lead guest must be 18 years or older and present a valid ID/passport at check-in.
2. Deposit & Payment
- Stays of 2 nights or more: 50% deposit required to confirm.
- Single-night stays: 100% prepayment required.
- The balance is collected within 7 days of arrival.
- Payment is processed securely via NightsBridge / PayGenius. We do not store full card details.
3. Cancellation Policy
The same cancellation policy applies to direct and OTA bookings.

One night's value is refundable as a goodwill gesture.
Cancellations must be sent in writing to info@78on5th.co.za. The date the email is received determines the applicable tier.
4. No-show & Early Departure
Failure to arrive without prior notice is treated as a same-day cancellation (100% forfeit). Early departures do not qualify for partial refunds.
5. Force Majeure
Where stays are prevented by events outside reasonable control — natural disaster, severe weather, government-imposed travel restriction, civil unrest, prolonged utility failure (load shedding beyond 8 hours), pandemic, or comparable cause — we will offer a credit voucher valid for 12 months in lieu of refund. Cash refunds in force majeure scenarios are at the sole discretion of the proprietor.
6. Damage & Liability
- Guests are liable for any damage to property or fittings caused during their stay, beyond normal wear-and-tear.
- 78 on 5th accepts no liability for loss, theft, or damage to guest belongings except where caused by gross negligence on our part.
- Our maximum liability for any single incident is capped at the value of the booking.
- Use of the pool, garden, and any on-site facilities is at the guest's own risk.
7. Group Bookings
For bookings of 3 or more rooms by a single party, an additional 25% non-refundable deposit applies, and the cancellation tiers above are extended by 7 days (e.g., 0 – 14 days = 100% forfeit, 15 – 21 days = 50%, 22 – 37 days = 25%). Group terms are confirmed in writing at the time of booking.
8. Check-in / Check-out
- Check-in: from 15:00. Late check-in by arrangement.
- Check-out: by 10:00 unless arranged directly with Jose.
9. Conduct & House Rules
All guests agree to abide by our House Rules. Breach may result in immediate termination of stay without refund.
10. Disputes
These terms are governed by South African law. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of South African courts. We aim to resolve all complaints directly and promptly — please contact us first.
